My name's Scott Porter, I'm a Web developer/programmer
living in merry old drizzle ridden, cold, clammy England! I'm not great at talking about myself, so don't expect
anything Earth-shattering here :-) As you may have guessed by all the stuff flying around here, I'm a bit of a
Javascript junkie. I enjoy writing games, animations and other pointless widgets for the Web, and give most of
them away for other people to waste time with too! I also write quite a lot of Perl scripts, some C/C++, a bit
of Flash actionscript, and have been known to dabble in Java and x86 assembler in the past. I've spent the last couple of
years working for dot.coms, mostly writing web applications.
I'm a keen advocate of open-source software, and follower of the OS community's ethos. I like to think some of the scripts I write will help someone else learn something... at some time :-) I will usually answer questions mailed to me about my scripts although I occasionally miss email as my games site tends to fill the inbox pretty quickly each morning! I also promote Linux whenever given half the chance - my favourite operating system and the last hope against the evil of Microsoft :-). If only Macromedia and co would port their tools over to it I could cut my ties to Windows! I have far too many computers in my house, all networked up together in strange and unusual ways. They're mostly headless servers running linux plus a windows desktop, a linux workstation and little iMac for testing web pages... and a couple of laptops - one running Atheos :-) I really need help for this addiction to technology!
Apart from coding, I'm passionate about music, and enjoy everything from Aphex Twin to Talvin Singh. I'm mostly into dance and drum'n'bass, I have a hard drive on one of my servers dedicated to MP3s and OGGs of some of my CD collection. 25gigs so far and counting! Just lately I've been listening to just about everything from Nine Inch Nails, Kosheen, some of my old stuff from Massive attack and various dance tracks. I used to write a bit of music at one time too...
I'm an avid reader, mostly horror, although my last couple of books have been sci-fi (Cryptonimicon by Neal Stephenson is fantastic, BTW!)
I've travelled quite a bit, and love to see new places and new things. Life's too short to stick in a tiny little corner of the planet... I think that's enough rambling, don't you? Oh yeah, I also like girls, Southpark, Family Guy and Chinese food :-)
